For the first time in 60 years, Canada’s National Ballet School, has more boys graduating than girls. Many people see this as something called “The Billy Elliot Effect”, which is a direct correlation from when the movie came out 20 years ago to how many boys are auditioning and in ballet programs.

Joel Taylor, a fourth-year performance dance student was a “founding father” of the Billy Elliot Effect. Jemma Dooreleyers sits down with Taylor to talk about what it was like being a boy in ballet, a decade ago and how the National Ballet School helped in his professional dance career.
