Summary

Having the time for self care activities can be an elusive pursuit to many. Unconventional work schedules and times can often present as obstacles to achieving highly coveted leisure time. The onus for performing self care and facilitating recreational time often falls to employees to sort out. Diandria Wright, a registered nurse and artist has managed to maintain the balance between her job and her creative projects throughout the years by fitting art in anywhere she can in spite of her busy schedule. This might be challenging for some to overcome on their own and Edith Pencil, a Human Resources manager and Kira Liss, a social worker argue that there are things employees can do to make it easier, but institutions also need to take an active role in promoting self care.
