“Microcosm” is a Western philosophical term that suggests that people are “little worlds” that reflect the universe. It draws from the Greek words “mikros” and  kosmos,” which mean “little worlds.” In 2019, K-pop group BTS released their song “Mikrokosmos,” drawing inspiration from the same term.

BTS, BLACKPINK, Twice, Seventeen, New Jeans – K-pop has exploded in the west.

Despite the genre’s colossal global reach, the K-pop fandom is built upon tons of different communities and fanbases, all with their own stories to tell.

In the pilot episode of Mikrokosmos, we’ll be exploring the different ways in which K-pop has fostered welcoming, supportive, tight-knit communities, and perhaps one of the biggest titans of K-pop currently – BTS.
