International Women’s Day Rally & March in Toronto, 2019.

International Women’s Day (#IWD) took place on Friday the 8th of March. Following the celebration, Toronto held its annual rally and march in support of the women’s rights movement. Although the event takes place once a year, activism regularly continues throughout the week with the aim to eliminate discrimination, raise awareness of inequality and showcase opportunities for all women over the world.

One event that was held at Ryerson University, sparked the conversation of Shadeism. Nicole Lucas hosted the discussion, ‘The Shade of It All’, where panelists and the public were invited to speak about the issues that women face in the fashion industry.

Nicole has recently started a business called, ‘Good Form’, that focuses on providing nude shades for people of all colours with the goal to build a community.

Likewise, Fashion student Danica Hooper is educating people and changing the ideas surrounding Shadeism. Danica speaks about her collaboration with the Bridal company, ‘Lover’s Land’ and how she is increasing diversity within their campaign.
