Starting a new life in a new country can be very challenging. For those who decide to migrate to a new country, they have their own set of reasons as to why they decided to move. However, moving to a new country is sometimes the only option. Layal Ajaj is a Syrian refugee who now studies at Ryerson University. She is studying psychology and she is in her second-year. Ajaj described her journey to Canada and her experiences living here as a “rollercoaster ride.”

Moving to Canada was the only option Ajaj had to ensure that she would have a future. Being exposed to a new culture, new norms and new expectations, Ajaj was faced with new obstacles. This is Ajaj’s story of coming to Canada, and why she had to leave everything behind.
