Not too long ago, seeing a Canadian play in a top flight professional sporting event left fans feeling one of two ways: Either, the Canadian would feel like a token participant just happy to be there or on some rare occasions, there’d be the Steve Nash or Joey Votto excelling but feeling like they were defying the odds. Of course that’s even if there was a Canadian.
Now though, not only are we seeing Canadians thrive across the sports world from Tennis to Soccer to Basketball to Golf and more, their success doesn’t feel random but rather, expected.
With the help of some experts of Canada’s athletics, Will Baldwin explores when this shift took place and how we got here. How did we go from the Canadian just happy to be there to a spot where their success regardless of the sport feels almost predictable. Baldwin believes this is currently the greatest era of Canadian sports. Up next, he’ll convince you just why that is.
