It is not only university students who feel the pressure of Toronto’s housing market on their wallets. Recent graduates are feeling the affects of living as a student long after their student life is over. Recent graduates have to balance rent, bills and student debt without having a job in their field. In Canada, 40 per cent of renters spend more than 30 per cent of their income on rent and utilities, while about 20 per cent are spending more than half their income. Yet there are no national regulations currently in place to try and combat this housing crisis across Canada. Reporter Brooklyn Neustaeter spoke to three university graduates to see how the high cost of living in Toronto is affecting them as young professionals.
