How TikTok is helping young women in comedy

Heritage homes, chocolate shops, coastal breezes. Victoria, Prince Edward Island is a quaint town, but also hosts a unique event each year: the province’s smallest pride parade. Rachel MacLeod, the parade’s organizer, says it’s the perfect spot for it. Victoria, in her eyes, is the kind of place where neighbours offer each other a cup of sugar when needed.
And she thinks the queer community on PEI could model itself after the tight-knit village. MacLeod thinks PEI is the “queerest place” on the Island, a space that taught her a lot about herself in her teen years. Now, she wants to make those spaces for others. We also speak to Rory Starkman, a community manager with a queer organization in the province.
