In a 2004 study posted by Research Gate, statistics showed that women were underrepresented in managerial roles in professional and collegiate sports. In 2015, Becky Hammon became the second woman in the history of the NBA to become an assistant coach.

Speaking to Aliya Grassia, Varsity Assistant for Ryerson University and Jessica Roque, Head Assistant Coach to the Ryerson Rams Women’s team, it seems there are still hurdles to overcome in both the managerial side of college sports, as well as for the women on the court.

Aliya Grassia works in game scheduling and team management at Ryerson University as Varsity Assistant.
Roque believes that women’s university basketball will see change with greater media coverage.
Jessica Roque has been Head Assistant Coach to the Ryerson Rams since 2016.
